The Science of Maple Sugaring: Science Saturday for 7 to 11 Year Olds
Saturday, March 9, 2013, 1:00 to 2:30 p.m., NRWA River Resource Center, 592 Main Street (Rt. 119) in Groton
Young scientists will begin the day learning about bud structure and how to find a maple tree based on the bud. Next, they will explore simple machines as they experiment with an old hand drill. We’ll play a game to learn about how trees transport sugar water all through the tree and then we will go outside and drill a tree. After collecting sap, we will do experiments with sugar concentrations. And of course, finish the day with a maple snack! Science Saturday costs $25. Pre-registration is required; to register, contact Mary Marro, NRWA Environmental Education Director, (978) 448-0299 or MaryM@NashuaRiverWatershed.org.
