* Camp Stevens Memorial Re-Dedication

On Saturday, *November 2, at 11 a.m*. there will be a re-dedication of the
Camp Stevens Muster Grounds memorial.

Camp Stevens was a Civil War training camp located off of Fitchburg road in
1862. It was the home and training camp of the 53rd Regiment Massachusetts
Volunteer Infantry. Soldiers came from the immediate area of Groton,
Shirley, Harvard and other towns including many from Worcester County. A
monument was placed in memory of those 950 soldiers in May of 1915. Over
the years the area around the monument had become so overgrown that it
blocked any view of the monument. The Town of Ayer, through the Ayer
Historical Commission, was the recipient of a partial grant this summer
from the Massachusetts Sesquicentennial Commission. Work began in August
and completed within a week by Pinard Landscaping.

The monument is located at 111 Fitchburg Road on property owned by David E.
Ross Associates, Inc.
