GROTON, Mass. —
UMass Memorial Health is moving ahead with plans to build a new satellite emergency facility to fill the void left by the closure of Steward Health Care's Nashoba Valley Medical Center.
At a meeting in Groton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday night, officials from UMass said the state's Department of Public Health approved the proposal for the facility, which will be located in the town.

The proposal includes 11 exam rooms, four observation rooms, three imaging rooms and a helipad.
UMass said they are currently in the design process, and the state would need to approve the design before construction can begin.
The goal is to open by the end of 2026.
Steward Health Care filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy just one year ago on May 6, 2024.
