Bruce Platzman, co-founder and vice chair of Leominster-based office furniture manufacturer AIS, has retired after 34 years with the company.

Platzman’s transition to retirement began over a year ago with the naming of Nick Haritos as the company’s president and CEO, according to a press release issued by the company on Friday.

“We thank Bruce for his ingenuity and steadfast commitment to building this extraordinary company. He nurtured an idea and created a powerhouse of dedicated, driven, service-focused professionals,” Haritos said in the press release. “It is an honor to be part of this successful company and to continue the momentum with passion and focus.”

AIS began in 1989 as a two-person furniture refurbishment company led by Platzman and partner Arthur Maxwell, who is also stepping down from the board in December, according to his LinkedIn page.

“As with any journey, there are triumphs and challenges, easy choices, and difficult decisions. The key is to learn from all of it and never stop pushing forward with a team of trusted colleagues,” Platzman said in the release.

Originally founded in Hudson, AIS moved their headquarters to Leominster in 2017. The company’s sales exceed $250 million annually and employs over 900 people, according to the release.

Platzman was part of WBJ’s Power 50 Class of 2019.
