The Physician Assistant provides medical care under the general supervision of a physician and is involved in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
As a Physician’s Assistant (PA):
- Responsible for the comprehensive coordination of medical care for assigned patients.
- Completes all required documentation including admission history and physical assessments within 24 hours, medicine/pediatric consultation assessments, and follow-up notes within 48 hours.
- Utilizes ICD 10 terminology and concepts for diagnosis and treatment.
- Prescribes medication or other interventions within the scope of PA practice.
- Operationalizes systems to accept and treat all appropriate patients up to hospital census capacity.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Supports our positive image as a responsive, quality health care service provider to referral sources, insurers and MCOs.
- Respects diverse views and approaches, and contributes to maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
- Other patient care duties as assigned
The Physician’s Assistant (PA) will have the following:
- Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
- Master’s degree in physician assistant studies
- 1-5 years of experience preferred
- Current Massachusetts Physician Assistant license registration
- US DEA and Massachusetts Registration as Controlled Substances Practitioner, Schedules II-VI.
- Current CPR certification is required.
- Prior experience in a Psychiatry setting is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and healthcare technology
- Self-directed, demonstrate initiative and professionalism, and exercise expert clinical judgment to function independently.
- Skills in interpreting and applying standards and regulations applicable to behavioral health inpatient services (e.g. JC, CMS, DMH, DPH)
- Time management, problem-solving, crisis management, and team-building capacity; flexibility, creativity, and ability to manage stress.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
