Job Functions
Diagnosing, treating, evaluating and managing acute and chronic illness and disease (e.g. diabetes, high ⚬ blood pressure)
⚬ Obtaining medical histories
⚬ Ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic studies (e.g., ETT’s, Stress Echo’s, Myoviews, EKGs)
⚬ Prescribing physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments
⚬ Prescribing drugs for acute and chronic illness (extent of prescriptive authority varies by state regulations)
⚬ Providing care for patients in acute and critical care settings
⚬ Counseling and educating patients on health behaviors, self-care skills, and treatment options.
⚬ Assist in the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.
⚬ EKG, Holter application, analysis and downloading to offsite company, and Event monitor applications.
⚬ Co-managing congestive heart failure patients & PPM/ICD patients
⚬ Follow up calls to patients with results following physician’s evaluation of tests
⚬ Seeing both inpatient and outpatients
⚬ Documenting care in a medical record
⚬ Responds to patient calls regarding medical questions and handles accordingly
⚬ Maintains inventory of all medical supplies and report to office manager to order as appropriate
⚬ Maintains and supports patient’s rights to care, privacy and respect.
Minimum Qualifications
â— Education
⚬ Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Master’s or Doctoral Degree
â— Experience
⚬ National board certification, 3+years of individualized care in Cardiac medicine
Licensure â— and/or Certification
⚬ Current licensure as nurse practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required
⚬ National certification with recertification as required every six years
⚬ ACLS certification required
⚬ BLS Health care provider required
⚬ Must be able to attain and maintain privileges at Emerson Hospital as Nurse Practitioner.
