Equipment Maintenance Person

The Town of Acton is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Person to perform mechanical, electrical, and manual work related to the maintenance and repair of Town vehicles and equipment. This benefitted union position supports Public Works operations by ensuring that vehicles, heavy and light equipment, and machinery are safe, functional, and ready for use, including during emergency and weather-related events.
 
Duties:  The Equipment Maintenance Person performs mechanical, electrical, and manual work related to the maintenance and repair of Town vehicles and equipment, including cars, trucks, heavy and light equipment, small gasoline engines, diesel engines, and hydraulic systems. Duties include performing routine and preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs; test-driving vehicles to ensure safe and proper operation; maintaining accurate repair and maintenance records; and supporting equipment specification recommendations. The position responds to emergency road calls and participates in 24/7 emergency response operations, including snow and ice removal and storm damage response. Additional responsibilities include operating equipment safely, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, assisting with snow plowing and winter maintenance of roads and Town facilities, and performing other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Entrance Requirements:  A valid driver’s license; CDL Class B endorsement or greater with an airbrake license is to be obtained within 2 years. Massachusetts Hoisting License 1D (forklift), 4E (catch basin) and Class 2B or greater and OSHA 10 are required at hire or must be obtained within one (1) year or by next available testing period, whichever comes first.  High School education or GED equivalency required with a minimum of one (1) year of public works or other similar construction related experience and equipment operation experience. Ability to supply own basic mechanic tools (specialty tools provided by the Town).
 
Preferred Qualifications:   OSHA Excavation Competent Persons certification; welding and fabrication experience and experience and knowledge of the principles and practices involved in public works.
 
Pay Rate:  Grade A4, starting $27.8785/hour, $57,987.28/year
