World-renowned Russian master basket maker Vladimir Yarish discusses harvesting birch bark in northwestern Russia, offers a history of birch bark work in ancient Novgorod, and traces peasants' use of and work with bark for practical needs. He explains traditional vs. contemporary birch bark craft, and tells about his teaching and his studio in Russia. Illustrated with examples and slides.
