* To Build a Fire with Walker Korby

To Build a Fire with Walker Korby

Saturday, April 6, 2013, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Lawrence Library, 15 Main Street in Pepperell

In Jack London’s classic short story, “To Build a Fire,” the reader follows the story of a man in the wilderness fighting for survival and his very basic need to be able to build a fire.  Fire building is an ancient art and it is a potential lifesaving skill that should not be lost today. Our presenter Walter Korby, wilderness guide, tracker, and naturalist, will instruct participants in the science and the art of creating fire from scratch using the bow & drill fire making technique, as well as how to create a one-match fire that someday could save their lives. This program is free and open to the public, made possible in part by a grant from the Pepperell Cultural Council. Most appropriate for adults and children ages 12 and up; younger children welcome with an adult.  Pre-registration is requested.  To pre-register, or for more information, please contact Al Futterman, NRWA Land Programs Director, at (978) 448-0299, or email
