Based on the novel by Boris Pasternak, adapted for the screen by Robert Bolt, and directed by David Lean, Doctor Zhivago is one of the grandest epic films of all time. It tells the story of a Russian physician and poet who, although married to another, falls in love with a political activist's wife who defiantly returns his love. Throughout the turmoil of the First World War and then the October Revolution, the lovers are repeatedly torn apart and reunited as they struggle to survive the twists of fate and fortune. Starring Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger, Alec Guinness, Tom Courtenay, Siobhan McKenna, Ralph Richardson, and Rita Tushingham.
