* Short films to be shown at Fort Devens Museum

An Armed Forces Information and Education film about the history of the Korean War and a brand new short film highlighting Fort Devens and the Museum make up the Fort Devens Museum's free program on Saturday, February 21, 2015. The two films will be screened starting at 1 p.m. as part of the Museum's regular third Saturday of each month opening its doors to the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its premises at 94 Jackson Road on Devens.

The Korean War film is a restoration in DVD format of one of an assortment of more than 60 training and educational films the Museum received several years ago. These were films used in instruction at Fort Devens. Since many of the 16-mm films were in various stages of deterioration when received, the entire collection was turned over to Harvard Film Archives in Cambridge. The new 38-minute audio-visual introduction to Camp Devens/Fort Devens and the Fort Devens Museum is the work of a father-son partnership, Andrew and Louis Tabak of Weston.

These two DVDs appear this month in a swap with the originally scheduled program for February 21st. Guest Speaker Duane Barber of Harvard, originally scheduled to give his program this month, has had to reschedule his talk for Saturday, March 21st. The subject of his program is an introduction to today's larger-unit training maneuvers and exercises conducted by the U.S. Army. Barber observes and provides some input of many such exercises, and it is another of these training maneuvers that calls him away this month. Meanwhile, the two films had originally been scheduled for March.

The Museum's third Saturday of the month programs traditionally include coffee and light refreshments and an opportunity for visitors to see what's new at the Museum  and converse with others who share an interest in military and local history.

This program is free and open to the public but donations are much appreciated. The Museum is located on the third floor at 94 Jackson Road and is wheelchair accessible. Please call 978-772-1286 or email info@fortdevensmuseum.org for more information.
