Wild Birds Unlimited, the original and largest franchise system of backyard bird feeding and nature specialty stores with 280 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada, announced it recently opened its newest location at 175 Littleton Rd., Westford, MA 01886.

The new Wild Birds Unlimited will be owned and operated by Sandy Hurd. Hurd was a librarian for the majority of her life where she worked for the world’s largest subscription agency and also interacted with some of the largest libraries throughout the U.S. She wanted to take control of her own destiny and since backyard bird feeding was a hobby of hers since the age of four, she realized she wanted to become an entrepreneur and open a business she was passionate about – a bird feeding specialty store. It wasn’t until she came across the Wild Birds Unlimited franchise that she felt this was the right path for her to take. 

“I visited several Wild Birds Unlimited stores throughout the U.S. and they all left such a great impression on me,” said Hurd. “My meeting with Wild Birds Unlimited corporate about the franchise opportunity sealed the deal and I knew this was the type of store that the Westford community needed. Stay tuned for Wild Birds Unlimited of Westford to host its grand opening weekend of festivities on Saturday, September 6 and Sunday, September 7. The event will kick-off on Saturday with a ribbon cutting by the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce followed by a show put on by the New England Reptile & Raptor specialist Marla Isaac who will bring birds of prey into the store from 11 a.m. to noon. On Sunday, September 7 at 2 p.m., famed author and naturalist David Allen Sibley will be stopping by for an informal event and book signing. Additionally, there will be giveaways throughout the weekend such as a free Wild Birds Unlimited Classic Hopper Feeder, a Shepherd’s Crook Feeder and more.
