National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day
Saturday, April 26, 2014, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
NRWA would like to encourage everyone to participate in the next Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on April 26th. Residents can drop off any unused prescription and over-the-counter medications (including pet meds) at designated locations for free; the service is anonymous, no questions asked. Most watershed communities are participating; contact your local police department for more information.
This NRWA project, funded by a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust (MET), is focused on outreach to the public about the proper way to dispose of unused medications because unused medications are often flushed down drains, which can lead to groundwater and surface water contamination. NRWA is partnering with Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Worcester Division of Public Health, Fallon Community Health Plan, the Montachusett Public Health Network and others on this initiative.
For more information about NRWA’s Pharmaceuticals: Taking Action to Protect the Commonwealth’s Waters project, please contact Martha Morgan, NRWA Water Programs Director, at (978) 448-0299, or email MarthaM@NashuaRiverWatershed.org. Mark your calendar now, and drop off your unused prescriptions and over-the-counter drugs on April 26th! FREE
