Mike Zito & The Wheel
You might know multiple Blues Music Award winner Mike Zitoas the hot guitarist/singer with Royal Southern Brotherhood. But if Mike had a dollar for every mile of tarmac he’s burnt since his breakout in the early ’90s, they’d be piled up to his chin. Zito began touring the Midwest circuit at the age of eighteen and has since crossed twenty-plus countries as guitarist with the Brotherhood. “In my band, 'The Wheel,' if you’re not already with us, you’d better get on board,” he grins “because otherwise we’re gonna knock you down!”
Zito’s newest release "Keep Coming Back" mixes ripping slide guitar with a lived in vocal that moves from the celebratory opening title track to the self affirming Americana of ‘Get Busy Living’, one of 3 well crafted co-writes with the weighty Anders Osborne. While his previous studio album ‘Going To Texas’ was a conceptual metaphor for some major changes in his life – not least the move from his native St. Louis to Texas – ‘Keep Coming Back’ is more of a celebration of his own broad based songwriting style with passionate vocals, great playing and deep songs that twist and turn into unforeseen directions. it's his ability to draw on social realist lyrics allied to a killer groove and a linear slide line that draws the listener in and makes Mike Zito more than your average blues rocker.
In 2016 his endless freeway is still a siren-call that this lifelong road-dog can’t ignore. “The road is part of the story,” he concludes, “and that’s why there are so many songs about it. When a tour ends, I can’t wait to get home. But by the week after, I’m itching to get back out there. It’s like the song says, the road never ends.”
