HERSTORY: THE WOMEN’S RIGHTS MOVEMENT IN AMERICA
Abigail Adams wrote to her husband John to “remember the ladies” during the founders’ deliberations on the new constitution at the birth of this country. However, much to her dismay, the rights of women were ignored.
In this seminar, we will discuss how the women in the United States struggled for equal rights for over two hundred years. We will meet women of all races who were rich, poor, advantaged, or disadvantaged: women who wanted both bread and roses! Their stories are compelling and uplifting. Using both primary and secondary sources, we will trace how the struggle endured and changed lives while our nation struggled to become The United States of America.
