* Hawk Henries and the Native American Flute

Hawk Henries is a member of the Chaubunagungamaug band of Nipmuck, a people indigenous to what is now Southern New England. He has been composing original music and making Eastern Woodland flutes using only hand tools and fire for over twenty years. Stop by the Wayside Visitor Center in the morning to see how he creates beautiful wooden flutes. Later, you can hear Hawk play original compositions on a wide variety of flutes in this afternoon concert. You may even hear the Didgeridoo and Mbira! Hawk enjoys sharing his personal experiences and perspectives about life in a busy contemporary world and uses his work to acknowledge and honor the sacredness in each person and all cultures. He has performed in many educational settings for any number of age levels and has performed at such venues as the New Orleans Jazz Festival, The National Museum of the American Indian at the Smithsonian, and the American Folk Festival. Space is limited for the afternoon concert. To reserve your seat, contact programming@fruitlands.org or call (978) 456-3924, ext. 239.
