What You’ll See on May 18
When the final remaining tasks are completed this spring, Sandy Pond Schoolhouse will be ready for its next 150 years. Complementing the classroom restoration completed earlier, the ell has also been restored and is now fully accessible. New features include painstakingly hand restored windows, an accessible washroom with hot and cold running water, an accessible entrance, and more.

May 18 will be a time to celebrate a restored Sandy Pond Schoolhouse. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to tour the newly restored schoolhouse. You’ll learn a little more about its role in Ayer history and have some fun in the process. Food, fun and a little bit of history. Be there or be square.

What Lies Ahead

From the beginning, our major goal has been to make the schoolhouse available as a venue for community activities. This is a role it served for many years following its 1908 purchase by SPSA. Lectures, meetings, musical performances, and at least one art auction were regularly held at the schoolhouse. Now this will once again be possible.

In addition, we are delighted to announce the launch of a new program under which local elementary school students will spend a day at Sandy Pond Schoolhouse.
Modeled after similar programs at other single room schoolhouses, this program will provide students with a taste of schooling in an earlier era. It is being developed in collaboration with Page-Hilltop instructors and administration. The target launch date is the fall of 2024.
