Fruitlands Reads Book Group: Eden’s Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father
by John Matteson
Bronson Alcott and his family arrived at Fruitlands Farmhouse on June 1, 1843 hoping to establish a utopian community. The experiences they had while dwelling in the rambling building would come to shape their lives and have a lasting impact on American thought. Learn how the family’s time at Fruitlands honed the relationship between Bronson and his famous daughter Louisa May in a book group discussion of John Matteson’s Pulitzer Prize winning biography, Eden’s Outcasts: The Story of Louisa May Alcott and Her Father.
We will meet in the historic house for a brief guided tour, and then take up our conversation accompanied by light snacks, iced tea and lemonade on the porch. Like any book group, all are welcome, whether you’ve read the book or you’re simply curious to learn more!
Limited seating. Advance registration required. To register, email programming@fruitlands.org or call (978) 456-3924, ext. 239
