Fitchburg Art Museum Opens the 77th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft
and it will Dazzle Your Senses!
Opening Reception is on Sunday, June 24, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
The Award Ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The exhibition will be on view from June 24 – September 2, 2012
Fitchburg, MA. --The annual Fitchburg Art Museum’s 77th Regional Exhibition of Arts and Crafts highlights the region’s best artistic talent in all mediums. Over 100 artists were selected by Susan Stoops, Interim Chief Curator & Curator of Contemporary Art at the Worcester Art Museum, Dana Salvo, photographer and Director of the Clark Gallery, and Jamie Coyle, certified art appraiser and President of Saighead Incorporated. The well-known curators not only selected the art but also gave out cash awards and prizes. Additionally, the public will be invited to vote on their favorite artwork in the show.
“This important exhibition continues our commitment to support local artists. We believe we have an incredible amount of talent right here in our own backyard. The show is dynamic, eclectic, and power-packed with artworks that range from the realistic to abstraction, from the humorous to the serious, from the experimental to the conceptual. There is something here that will inspire everyone,” said Museum Director Peter Timms.
The exhibition was developed to encourage, discover, and support regional creative talent. It is open to all adult members of the Fitchburg Art Museum and to all adult non-members who live in towns and cities within a 25 mile radius of the Museum.
The 77th Regional Exhibition of Art & Craft isgenerously sponsored by Workers’ Credit Union, and in part by Massachusetts Cultural Counciland the Cultural Councils of Acton/Boxborough, Ashburnham, Ayer, Harvard, Hubbardston, Leominster,Lunenburg, Pepperell, Princeton, and Townsend.
The Fitchburg Art Museum, North Central Massachusetts’ oldest and most treasured cultural institution, is a world-class family-friendly museum with a permanent collection spanning 5,000 years. Visitors can experience a wealth of masterpieces in 12 galleries that feature American, European, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, African, Asian, and Pre-Colombian art. Award-winning educational programs inspire all to learn about the importance of world cultures, art history, and contemporary life. The museum was founded in 1925 through a bequest of artist, collector, educator and Fitchburg native Eleanor Norcross (1854-1923).
Hours:Wednesday – Friday, Noon – 4pm, Saturday and Sunday 11 am – 5 pm. Closed Monday’s.
Admission: Free for members; $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students (13+). Fitchburg Art Museum supports Fitchburg’s First Thursday program and is free from 4.00 p.m. – 7 p.m. everyfirst Thursday of the month. The Museum is wheelchair accessible.
