It is the mission of the Federal Bureau of Prisons to protect society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens.
FMC Devens is an administrative security federal prison located in Ayer/Devens. Opened in 1999, FMC Devens houses approximately 1,200 male federal inmates. The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Devens is one of 121 institutions in the Bureau of Prison. FMC Devens is a
secure prison facility that houses inmates of all security levels (minimum –maximum). FMC Devens is one of six federal prisons with the primary mission of housing inmates who require specialized or long term medical and mental health care.
