ATS® is a grounded, earthy and regal dance style done within a synchronized group dynamic. Go beyond performing a piece of choreography and learn to think on your feet with other dancers at your side. ATS® centers around connection, with dancers moving together in unison and interacting with each other through a common vocabulary of movements and cues. In this introductory workshop, you will learn the basic posture, steps, and formations of this form and be given the tools to begin to communicate. We will divide our time equally between energetic, rhythmic fast steps and regal, serpentine slow moves all while interpreting musicality. By the end of the workshop, you will have the basic skills to create small, improvised group dances without ever saying a word to your partners. No dance experience necessary.
Health benefits of Belly Dance: Improves posture, builds a strong core, aligns the body, strengthens leg and latissimus dorsi muscles, and creates body awareness. You will experience a strong sense of connection, rhythm and symmetry.
What to bring/wear: students can feel free to bring a wrap around skirt, leotard or tight fitted top (no baggy t-shirts), yoga pants, bare feet, dance paws or ballet slippers, hair back and up.
