Al’s Highway 50 is a project of Al Laughlin, original member of the Colorado band, The Samples. Laughlin helped write some of The Samples most popular songs featuring catchy hooks and a bubble reggae style, giving the band its signature sound. He is still collaborating with many of his old bandmates, as well as new blood from the vibrant Colorado music scene and has crafted a new sound in Highway 50 – a reggae/jazz/ska jam band named after a lonely road in Utah where he once ran out of gas.
Incorporating Reggae, Ska, Rock and Jazz voicings with melodic vocals and introspective lyrics, Highway 50’s live shows are notoriously lively and danceable.
Laughlin has released two records, a self titled recording, and “The Violet Project,” which can be found on Al Laughlin & Highway50 YouTube, iTunes, CD Baby, SoundCloud and Reverbnation.
Currently, Laughlin is in the Boulder, Colorado’s Violet Studio completing a new EP titled: “Where’s Al?” featuring some of the most inspired music to date.
“Being one of the most prominent musicians to come out of Colorado, Laughlin brings an eclectic mix to the table, sharing his years of musical experience to bring a fresh and impressive new sound to Highway 50.”- MusicExistence
“The Violet Project” boasts loads of really excellent tunes and arrangements, the kind of songs, that in an ideal world would be sure-fire number one singles. This is a great EP that will brighten up your life – an essential pop ska recording!” - JamSphere Review
