SUMMARY:Organic Gardening - Lancaster Garden Club
DESCRIPTION:Organic gardening\, make it fun and easy.\nWhen: 17 Sep 2023 7:00 PM\, EDT\n\nWhere: Lancaster Community Center\n\n \n\nEVENT DETAILS:\n\nHello Fellow Gardeners\,\n\nThis summer sure has gone by quickly but there is plenty of gardening left\; I am not ready yet for foliage\, spice lattes\, and sweaters. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSeptember is a great month for getting out\, cooler temps and hopefully some sunshine and of course our first get together for the 2023-2024 gardening season. \n\n\n\nOrganic Gardening: \n\nMost of us have asked\, just what is organic? While there is much talk about the benefits of organic gardening\, there is also a great deal of confusion about what exactly this means. We will discuss what is or is not meant by organic gardening\, how organic standards apply to the home gardener\, and what organic techniques you can most easily employ in your own gardens\, from the large-scale gardens to container gardens. \n\n\n\nOur speaker is Kathi Gariepy she a former special needs preschool and kindergarten teacher who has been gardening since she was a child. She is a Lifetime Master Gardener with the Massachusetts Master Gardener Association\, volunteering more than 10\,000 hours\, past Vice President of the MMGA\, past chair of the Master Gardener Advisory Board\, past president of the Attleboro Garden Club. Kathi is a Landscape Design Consultant and on the Gardening Study Council. Kathi has worked as lead teacher for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society\, education coordinator for MassAudubon and studied landscape design at Rhode Island School of Design. She is also the recipient of the MMGA's Lifetime Achievement Award (the Golden Trowel) and the MHS Silver Medal and is currently the chair of the Attleboro Conservation Commission. Kathi teaches children and adults about the wonders of nature. She also owns the garden design company Pleasant Vistas. Kathi lives in an old farmhouse with perennial borders\, herb gardens\, a vegetable garden\, grapes\, blueberries\, raspberries and some very old\, still producing\, apple trees.\n\n\n\nI sure hope you join us this month.
