SUMMARY:* “Dragons\, Damsels\, and Giants…Oh My!” (Nashua River Watershed Association)
DESCRIPTION:Join Nashua River Watershed Association naturalists at your local park for "Dragons\, Damsels\, and Giants Oh My!" a free hour-long family adventure with aquatic insect investigations. Discover the amazing creatures that live under the water in freshwater rivers\, streams\, and ponds everywhere\, including your local park or conservation property. Fun for children of all ages and their adults.\n\nWhen and Where: Programs run on the following Sundays from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.:\n\nApril 10 Mass Central Rail Trail\, Sterling\, MA\n\nApril 24 Barrett Park\, Leominster\, MA\n\nApril 24 Cowdrey Nature Center\, Lunenburg\, MA\n\nMay 1 Rauscher Farm\, Clinton\, MA\n\nMay 1 Fredonian Park and Nature Center\, Shirley\, MA\n\n\n\nWhat: Participants will use aquatic nets with collection basins\, microscopes\, sorting tools\, and identification keys to learn about this critically important category of freshwater species and\, in doing so\, learn about the water quality in their communities. Many of these insects\, like dragonflies and damselflies\, live part of their life in the water as nymphs and emerge to become flying insects as adults. NRWA staff will talk about what makes good habitat for these important insects\, and how to protect it\, for example\, conserving greenspace along rivers\, and using local plantings to prevent erosion and pollution runoff.\n\n\n\nWorkshop is FREE\; registration is required and space is limited. For more information or to register\, email us at Registration@NashuaRiverWatershed.org. Please include the program date/place for which you wish to register\, your full name\, the number of individuals in your group\, the ages of any children\, and your best telephone contact number. For the comfort of all\, no dogs are allowed. Directions to the program will be provided upon registration. \n\n\n\nThese free programs are made possible in part by a grant from the Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts. \n\nPlease feel free to share this message with others who may be interested. Thank you!
