SUMMARY:* Degrowth and the Green New Deal (Nashua River Watershed)
DESCRIPTION:Degrowth and the Green New Deal \n\nWednesday\, March 15\, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. on Zoom\n\nAndrew Ahern\, an ecological organizer\, freelance writer\, and public educator based in Boston\, will present this overview on the concept of degrowth: what it is\, why it's necessary\, and how we can start implementing degrowth. As the world\, and our watershed\, face shared challenges such as climate change\, droughts and floods\, considering a diversity of ideas\, large and small\, is important to the conversation on problem solving. Ahern describes his presentation this way: "In an era when demands made on our natural ecosystems exceed their capacity to regenerate\, and billions of individuals are without the proper means of survival\, degrowth is a radical reconceptualization of our economy and society. While calls for a Green New Deal have changed the conversation on the climate crisis\, it is clear that current Green New Deal's do not go far enough to achieve ecological sustainability and global justice. Degrowth offers not simply an alternative to Green New Deal proposals\, but a supplement to what the Green New Deal lacks. This talk will push us towards a new terrain when it comes to the Green New Deal discourse: a Degrowth Green New Deal." Join us for this conversation. Register for this program on Zoom. FREE
